Occupational therapy
– keeping the residents active and engaged

Adaikalam is not just a shelter for sleeping in, but its busy timetable boosting with engaging activities makes it a dynamic place to live and work in. Occupational therapy (OT) sessions are regularly organised for the residents with the intention of developing their concentration and cognitive capacities and involving the residents in frequent group interaction. Occupational therapy activities include the following:

    · Games
    · Yoga
    · Painting
    · Handicrafts

The residents at Adaikalam are also encouraged to participate in the daily chores, such as cooking, cleaning and housekeeping, making sure that no one is left idle for long periods of time without something meaningful to do. Those women who actively and regularly contribute to the upkeep of The Banyan are paid a small salary as an incentive to encourage the residents to sustain themselves, working for the first time after coming to The Banyan.
